AMOUNT
It is the intent of this program to award scholarships in the amount of $500 or more. As the funds for these scholarships are based upon the voluntary contributions of our members, the actual amount is dependent upon the level of contributions to the scholarship fund.
CRITERIA
• The scholarship is to be used at a post-secondary institution. This includes accredited colleges, universities, and technical/trade schools.
Cowlitz or Wahkiakum County.
• The student/applicant must attend school full-time, taking 12 credits or more.
• The student/applicant must demonstrate financial need (Maria Harris Scholarship).
• The student applicant must have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.00 or better.
• The student/applicant must submit 2 comprehensive letters of character reference of no more than 300 words from one community member and one educator. The letter should address character, personality, and academic or community involvement.
• The student/applicant must describe future education goals, plans for financing your education, and community involvement.
• The scholarship award must be used within ONE calendar year of the following term.
SELECTION PROCESS
The selection team will be a subset of the Kelso Longview Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation Committee and the Kelso Longview Chamber of Commerce Lower Columbia Professionals. Applications must be completed in full by 11:59 pm on March 29, 2024, to be considered. Notice of award or denial will be sent via email by the end of the day on April 12, 2024. Awards will be presented at the Pillars of Strength Business and Education Awards on May 2, 2024, which we invite and encourage the student and parents to attend.

• Letter of recommendation from a friend or community member (300 words or less).
• Letter of recommendation from an educator (300 words or less).
Any incomplete or falsified applications or documentation will not be reviewed or considered for award.
