In February of 2008, Community Tourism Assessments of Longview and Kelso,
Washington were conducted, and the findings were presented in workshops in March. The assessment provides an unbiased overview
of the community – how it is seen by a visitor. It includes a review of local
marketing efforts, signage, attractions, critical mass, retail mix, ease of getting
around, customer service, visitor amenities such as parking and public
restrooms, overall appeal, and the community’s ability to attract overnight
visitors.
In performing the “Community Assessment,” we looked at the area through
the eyes of a first-time visitor. No prior research was facilitated, and no community
representatives were contacted except to set up the project, and the
town and surrounding area were “secretly shopped.”
